Amanda Friday hails from Cedar Grove, New Jersey. He attended Memorial High School (now called Cedar Grove High School). He gravitated towards this cooking line, and motivation came from everyone around him, from his grandparents to his high school home economics teacher named Joan Levine.

After graduating in 1989, Amanda Freitag took her first job as an assistant to Chief Jean-Georges Vongerichten in Vong, New York. He learned to fuse French and Southeast Asian materials. After 5 years, he left Vong to join Verbena. This time its chief was Diane Forley. He has mastered the art of using local, organic ingredients in cooking. He soon rose through the ranks and became the chef of the kitchen.
