On May 6, 1987, he was born in Leuven, Belgium, to dad Herman Mertens and Marijke Mertens, mom. He does not have any siblings. His parents originated from a humble background, but they raised him in all the ways they would. Dries has Belgian citizenship but his ethnicity is not known.
