Talking about his career, Pontus gave a start to his career by making his Elitseren premiere during the 2010–11 season as an added forward in the second game of the season versus Modo Hockey. In May 2011, he extended his deal with Djurgarden to the 2013–14 season. Later, he was sent to play for fellow SHL team, Farjestad BK, in the 2013-2014 season.
Further, In the 2014-2015 season, he started playing his first American season by playing for the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals after signing an entry-level deal with the Predators. He played in 15 regular-season matches in the 2016-17 NHL season, netting one goal and one assist with the Predators. The predators re-signed Aberg to a two-year contract on 18 July 2017.
