Singer Mariah Carey was born March 27, 1970, in Huntington, Long Island, New York, to her parents Alfred Roy Carey, a Venezuelan aeronautical engineer, and her mother Patricia Carey, vocal coach and opera singer. She has two other older siblings: a brother called Morgan, and a sister, Alison.

Carey’s parents divorced when she was three. She knocked out her mother by imitating her lyrical singing from the age of two and received singing lessons from the age of four. Eventually, Carey will develop a voice that spans five octaves.

After graduating in 1987 from the Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, New York, Carey moved to Manhattan, where she served as a waitress and coat checker. She studied cosmetology, writes songs, and actively pursues a musical career at night.

A career in early music: ‘Mariah Carey’ and ‘Emotions.’

At the age of 18, Carey and her friend singer Brenda K. Starr attended a party hosted by CBS Records. Starr convinced Carey to bring one of his demo tapes. She intended to give the tape to the Columbia’s Jerry Greenberg, but Tommy Mottola, president of Columbia Records (later Sony), intercepted it before she could hand it over to Greenberg. After listening to the tape on his way home after the party, Mottola immediately signed on with Carey and put it to work for her debut album, Mariah Carey (1990), which included four # 1 singles: “Vision of Love, “Love Takes Time, “Some Day “and” I Don’Je Wanna Cry. ” 

Her second album, called Emotions, was released in 1992; the title track became her fifth No. 1 single and featured the hits “Can’t Let Go” and “Make it Happen.”

‘Music box,’ ‘Dream,’ ‘Butterfly’

In March 1992, Carey appeared on MTV’s Unplugged. This performance was released as an album and home video, resulting in another # 1 single (a cover of The Jacksons’ “JE’ll Be There”). His next album,  Music Box (1993), took a little less of the lavish studio production techniques heard on his previous albums and included the # 1 singles “Dreamlover” and “Hero.” 

Its release in November 1994,  Merry Christmas, combined traditional Christian hymns with new songs. In 1995, she released Rêve; his first single, “Fantasy,” debuted at number 1. It also included collaborations with the R&B and hip-hop artists such as Wu-Tang Clan and also Boyz II Men (“One Sweet Day”).

His 1997 album, Butterfly, She featured 11 compositions written by Carey and demonstrated his continued interest in hip-hop and R&B, including the film “Honey” produced by Sean “Puffy” Combs, his 12th hit. Carey’s 1998 album, # 1’s, she featured her previous 13 singles, as well as the Oscar-nominated film titled “The Prince of Egypt (When You Believe)” with her friend pop diva Whitney Houston.

‘Shine,’ Hospitalization and new record

In July 2001, Carey was admitted to a New York area hospital, and psychiatric cautioned after suffering what her publicists termed a “physical and emotional collapse.” Carey was preparing to promote her upcoming feature film, Shine, and her accompanying music album but called off all public appearances. Briller’s release was postponed from late August to late September 2001. Carey was released from the hospital two weeks later.

In January 2002, Carey and EMI (the owner of Virgin Records, with whom Carey had signed an $ 80 million contract in April 2001) broke off their relationship. Although the Shine movie and soundtrack failed to generate the desired revenue and revenue, Carey reportedly left Virgin with nearly $ 50 million as part of her termination deal. In May 2002, she signed a music contract with Universal Music Group.’s Island / Def Jam Records.

The singer has proven herself to remain one of the best performers around with the release of her 15th studio album, Warning  (2018), which debuted at No. 5 in the United States and has been cited in many many lists of “albums of the year.”

Carey has sold over 200 million music albums worldwide. She is currently the third best-selling female artist of all time in the US, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

‘American Idol,’ Vegas Residence, and ‘Mariah’s World’

In 2012, Carey was cast as the new judge for season 12 of the popular FOX TV show American Idol, taking place alongside Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj, and singer Keith Urban. In mid 2013, she appeared in a small role in  The Butler, Lee Daniels’ biopic about the White House Butler Eugene Allen, and she voiced a character in the American Father animated television series!

In January 2015, Carey signed a residency agreement in Las Vegas from May 2016. On the occasion of her Vegas show, # 1 to Infinity, at Caesar’s Palace, she released a collection of hits that contains her No.1 tracks. In 2015, she also starred and directed in A Christmas Tune, a holiday movie on the Hallmark Channel.

In early 2016, Carey launched The Sweet Sweet Fantasy and Mariah’s World Tour, a television series on E !, which followed her European tour. She took on another film role, voicing the Mayor in 2017’s animated  The Lego Batman Movie.

Bipolar admission

In an April 2018 cover story for the People, Carey shared the story of her long-standing secret battle with bipolar II disorder. First diagnosed in 2001, after being hospitalized with a failure, the singer said she refused to recognize him for years. “Until recently, I lived in denial, isolation, and the constant fear of exposing myself,” she said. “It was too much of a burden to carry, and I just couldn’t do it anymore.”

Carey said she turned the tide after finally asking for help and started taking treatment and taking the medication regularly. “I’m just in a great place right now, where I’m comfortable discussing my struggles with bipolar II disorder” people. “I hope we can get to a place where the stigma is lifted of people going through anything alone. It can be incredibly isolating. It doesn’t have to define you, and I refuse to allow it to. define me or control me. “
